Kalikah Jade is a nationally recognised contemporary belly dance artist based in Adelaide, South Australia. She is an energetic and sensual performer who fuses traditional and tribal bellydance, specialising in improvised performances. A belly dance student of over 10 years, Kalikah has trained extensively across many disciplines of the dance with both Australian and international artists. She has developed an exotically hypnotic style which reflects the earthy grace and artistry of Classical technique with the stunning elegance and mysteriously slinky movements of Tribal, adding her decidedly dark flavour – a unique twist leaving her audience delightfully intrigued and entertained.
Kalikah is available for workshop bookings and shows across Australia, and also private events – please use the booking form here to enquire about rates and availability.
Kalikah is now permanently residing in Adelaide after a two year stint in Brisbane, QLD. During her time on the east coast she was warmly welcomed to the QLD bellydance community, joining prolific Brisbane Tribal Fusion troupe Opalesque as a teacher and performer. With Opalesque co-founder Sian Bhala, she co-produced her first major event ‘Cirque de Serpentine’, and successfully sold out its debut, and was met with an enthusiastic response from the wider creative community.
Her performance specialty includes elements such as sword balancing and manipulation (definitely a crowd pleaser), exotically mysterious veil dancing and the spectacular Wings of Isis. She has also recently added Fan Veils to her repertoire. Her performance style can range from cheeky and playful to dark and brooding, with music styling varying from traditional Egyptian ‘Classical’ style music right through to contemporary industrial beats. The unlikely pairing of contemporary darker sounds with the sensual elegance and precise technique of fusion style belly dance has earned her praise from reviewers, one punter commenting: ‘the most accomplished and polished performer we’ve had grace our stage, for sheer body control and elegance she’s a hard act to beat.'(Adam Gould, Night Voices 2011).
In 2014 she was proud to be a guest performer and teacher at the Newcastle Bellydance Festival where her workshops and performances were met with glowing reviews. She was also a featured guest performer & teacher at the annual Fire in the Belly Festival in Albury, NSW. Early 2015 saw her return to the Adelaide Fringe as a special guest soloist for Belly Dance Adelaide’s ‘Belly Dance and the Legend of the Half Moon.’ She was also a featured guest at the first bi-annual Adelaide Belly Dance Festival.
Kalikah regularly attends workshops by local, interstate and international performers in varying styles to extend her technique and hone her skills. Some of her biggest influences include those she has been fortunate enough to train with – Ashley Lopez, Rachel Brice, Sashi, Acushla, Aradia & Sian Bhala.
In her spare time you can find her at her local yoga studio, pottering around in the garden or enjoying a video game or three!
